Due to the nationwide Foot and Mouth Disease crisis, the Ten Tors Executive
Committee had to make the decision that the 2001
Expedition (scheduled for the weekend
of 12/13 May 2001) could not take place.
The statement dated 13 March 2001 from Major D M Iffland RA
(Controller, Ten Tors HQ) read:

"This is regrettable,
but it is clear that under the circumstances we must not
compromise the strict exclusion area surrounding DNPA, nor do
we wish to risk causing further distress to the farming
community... We look now to the future and it is our sincere
hope that Ten Tors 2002 will go ahead, indeed future planning
is already in hand."
