Bournemouth School CCF Navy Section

The CCF's Royal Navy section prides itself on it's close association with both the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines.  Cadets are taught a balanced combination of seamanship skills, sailing and navigation techniques in conjunction with "green army" soldering.

Cadets in the Navy section get a lot of contact with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines through the activities they take part in. Cadets will learn sailing skills, ship recognition, command tasks and navigation through a carefully managed mixture of classroom and practical tuition. These are then put to test through opportunities such as the navigation exercises off the West Coast of Scotland on the Clyde Fleet Tender camp.

The Navy Section is proud of our affiliation with HMS Portland; the Royal Navy's newest and fastest Type 23 Frigate.  This allows cadets the opportunity to go onboard as well as fly in Navy helicopters..

The Royal Marines are the Navy's infantry; providing a highly mobile, self-sustained and versatile force. On permanent readiness to deploy across the globe, they provide a strategic capability that is unique among the UK Armed Forces.

Amphibious Assault

Bournemouth School's CCF Navy section is very fortunate to have close contact with the Royal Marines based at Hamworthy, Poole which is only a few miles away.

This gives the RN section the opportunity of, among other things, going out with the Marines on rigid raiders.  RM Poole also hosts the use of their 30 metre small-arms outdoor and the indoor "cine" ranges.

Navy section recruits also learn survival skills like field cooking, as well as being taught to cope with emergencies that could occur out to sea.

Finally, command tasks and exercises are another essential part of the Navy cadet’s training to improve their leadership abilities.
